The Great Kilt

The Great Kilt or Belted Plaid (15th to 17th Century Highland wear) evolved from the needs of life in the Scottish Highlands. Made from locally produced wool and dyes to create the early tartans, it was an all-purpose garment that kept people alive and working in the harsh Scottish climate.

Nowadays, it's fun to wear and graceful with its sweeping drapes of fabric.

Available in the tartan of your choice. Usually made from a 5 yards x 60"  length of fabric, but we will discuss your needs as smaller people may need less.

NoteThere will be price variation based on final fabric selection, especially if we need to go to an "old and rare" tartan. We will advise you of the final cost after sourcing your chosen tartan, then discuss options and send an additional invoice when necessary.

Our basic Utility Belt works well with the Great Kilt; and we have a good selection of Plaid Brooches.

If you don't wish to hand fold the kilt each time you wear it we can sew the pleats in, to your measurements (cost is NZ$70.00).  For help with completing measurements, please refer to our measurement guide
