Reflections on the Scots in Spirit Summer Tour

Over the past few months you would have seen on our social media, blog, and email newsletters numerous notifications of Scots in Spirit traveling to various events around the country.

This came about as a result of a decision made late last year by the Scots in Spirit team to embark on a tour of Highland Games and Pipe Band events in the North Island.

As a result, we have been taken on an exciting five month journey which has seen us travel almost the full length of the Island – from our own back yard in Northland to the heart of the Manawatu – immersing ourselves in the celebration of New Zealand’s Scottish cultural roots while witnessing some of the country’s leading talents in Heavyweight as well as the arts of Highland Dancing, Bagpiping, and Highland Drumming.

Each event we attended was diverse in its size, nature, and setting, but what was evident was the strong dedication Kiwis have in recognising and staying connected with their Scottish heritage. Everyone has their own unique way of expressing this – from getting involved in a Clan Association or picking up one of many Scottish arts, such as dancing, bagpiping, or other traditional instrument – but what we each hold is a collective passion for our culture, and when this comes together at an event like a Highland Games the end result is spectacular!

Apart from the sometimes strangely unseasonal and unforgiving weather (Auckland and Waipu Highland Games in particular), Scots in Spirit has thoroughly enjoyed this journey. We are grateful that we can provide a high quality range of products and services that can help Kiwis make or continue to develop that special connection with their heritage, and we hope to continue to do this with a more extensive service and range in the future.

We also appreciate all of the positive feedback we received during our journey. This makes what we do all the more worthwhile.

We are particularly encouraged by the comments we received about our recent addition to our expanding range of products and services, which now includes highland dancing supplies, bagpipe supplies, and highland drumming supplies. These three ranges are undergoing continuing development, so watch this space!

Thank you once again for your support. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to get into contact with us (09) 9717694 or graham@scotsinspirit.com.
