Clan Collection

Our Clan Collection offers products which reflect your Clan affiliation.

The Clan system of Scotland has ancient origins in the Celtic, Norman-French and Norse traditions, and can be traced back to a time when people lived off the land, and border disputes were common.

The word ‘clan’ derives from the Gaelic word ‘clann’ or ‘clanna’ for children, and describes a close-knit group of relatives. However, you didn’t need to be related to be considered a part of the Clan;  in fact, anyone who pledged their allegiance to the Clan Chief could use the Clan name as their own.  Most Clans are still  generally associated with a geographical area of Scotland, and often had ancestral castles.

Today, Scottish Clans are celebrated across the world, including New Zealand with many keen to discover more about their roots and ancestral home. Clan names, tartans and crests are recorded by Lord Lyon for official recognition.

We encourage you to celebrate your Scottish heritage by selecting from our extensive portfolio of Clan crested and related products from badges and pocket watches to Clan books, hip flasks, plaques and much more for you to enjoy.

If you are keen to trace your lineage through time, with a comprehensive testing suite that can take you on this journey - Scots in Spirit can help facilitate your DNA testing by offering links to Family Tree DNA, a major tester and service provider.
